Returning the favor: Stanford buddy of
Woods' bag
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) Tiger Woods will have a new
caddie for the National Car Rental Classic former Stanford
teammate Jerry Chang.
Woods' regular caddie, Steve Williams, is home in New Zealand
to help with the grand opening of a race car track. Williams races
when he's not carrying the bag of the world's No. 1 player.
It's neat to do stuff like that, Woods said, noting
that Williams will return for the Tour Championship in Houston
in two weeks.
Since becoming his caddie in March 1999, the only time Williams
missed a tournament was the Buick Invitational last year in San
Diego when Woods tied for second in his bid to win his seventh
straight tour event.
Woods used his high school buddy, Bryon Bell, who had caddied
for him in San Diego the previous year when he won.
Chang, Woods' partner at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am the
past three years, is returning the favor as a caddie. The week
after Woods won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by a record 15 strokes,
he caddied for Chang in a U.S. Public Links Amateur qualifier.
Chang failed to advance.
Asked what his pal would get paid this week, Woods smiled and
said, We haven't worked that out.
