Woods nine back as Campbell
leads at Deutsche Bank

HEIDELBERG, Germany (AP) Tiger Woods
played an unspectacular 11 holes while New Zealand's Michael Campbell
built his lead to five strokes at the Deutsche Bank tournament
Friday before the second round was called because of darkness.
Campbell was at 14-under after also playing
only 11 holes in the $2.36 million tournament.
Woods was 5-under for the tournament after
29 holes, putting him nine back. He opened with a 69.
Woods snapped a string of 12 straight pars
with an eagle at the par-5, 588-yard fifth hole. He then birdied
the seventh, but bogeyed the 10th, leaving him 2-under for the
day.
Woods won the tournament in 1999 by three
strokes with a 15-under 273, following a 69 with three straight
68s.
One of the few things that brought a smile
to his face Friday was when a swan waddled leisurely across the
ninth hole green. The swan's entrance erased a frustrated look
off Woods' face, since it came just after his 25-foot birdie attempt
hit the cup then spun out.
No one mounted a challenge to Campbell,
who opened the tourney Thursday with a 10-under 62, the lowest
score ever at the St. Leon-Rot course, and led by four shots.
Campbell, seeking his fifth victory in two
years, had three birdies on his first four holes in damp and cold
weather Friday, then added two birdies before bogeying the ninth
hole.
Campbell, the fourth-leading money winner
on the European Tour last season, kept hitting approach shots
near the flag that set him up for easy birdie putts.
Eduardo Romero was second at 9-under after
27 holes. One stroke behind the Argentinian was South Africa's
Ernie Els, the two-time U.S. Open champion, and England's Greg
Owen.
Rain had hit the course Thursday, forcing
the first round to be completed Friday morning and the second
to start late in the afternoon.
