Breckenridge student to return to help run
show
By ANISSA CAMP / Abilene Reporter-News
This was supposed to be Kody Knight's last year at the Texas
State 4-H Horse Show, but he is coming back next year anyway.
Instead of competing in 1998, however, the Breckenridge High
School graduate will help run the big show.
Knight, 18, will enter West Texas A&M University this fall,
and when next summer rolls around again, he will be back here
to assist Dr. John Pipkin in the Hunter Hack event.
Pipkin was an arena director for the Hunter Hack event, and
Knight said that although he is sad about leaving the competition,
he is excited about helping out next year.
Knight has been riding since he was 4, in 4-H since he was
9, and has been coming to Abilene for the state competition since
he was 10. His mother Glenda said today, the final day of the
show, will be an emotional one for Knight and her, too.
"It's going to be sad when we leave here," Glenda
said. "There's going to be some tears shed."
Knight was one of several area participants who placed high
in an event at the show. He yanked in a second place ribbon in
Reining, but he had higher goals.
"I was going for first," Knight said, with a grin
on his face.
Other area youths among the top winners included:
-- Ryan Vasser, 12, of Big Spring, first place in Registered
Geldings 5 and Over.
-- Windy Ray, 17, of Throckmorton, second in Cutting.
-- Kendra Kemp, 11, of Talpa, second in Registered Mares 5
and Over.
-- Josi Leigh Hudson, 12, of Moran, second in Grade Gelding.
-- Ashley Ryan, 13, of Talpa, third in Reining.
-- Camron Fambro, 16, of Mingus, third in Calf Roping.

all of Throckmorton, third in Team Penning.
-- Seth Becker, 18, and Jed Hurska, 19, of Paint Rock, third
in Team Roping.
