A U.S. Department of State museum specialist who created his
own dream job will be honored as Abilene Christian University's
Young Alumnus of the Year during homecoming activities Saturday.
On Thursday, five alumni of the ACU Department of Journalism
and Mass Communication were honored at a banquet.
Honorees are:
Young Alumnus of the Year -- Cohn Drennan, 1980
Journalism graduates -- Brent D. Magers of Cleburne, 1980;
Cecilia H. Morgan of Dallas, 1974; Robert L. Nutt of Abilene,
1980; Susan Tunnell Rovegno of Phoenix, 1975; and Mark L. Shifflet
of Cranbury, N.J., 1983.
Drennan, who earned a bachelor's degree in industrial design
at ACU, will receive his award during homecoming chapel, starting
at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in Moody Coliseum. A reception in his honor
will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the Hall of Servants in the Biblical
Studies Building.
Drennan has worked as the acting director/museum specialist
for the Department of State's Art in Embassies Program in Washington.,
D.C, since 1989. His duties include supervising the management
of an $85 million collection of works of art on loan to U.S. embassies
and missions all over the world.
Drennan said the job is "pretty specific and there aren't
really any others like it," which is the reason he has had
to write the job description as he has gone along.
The journalism honorees include Magers, who is administrator
and chief executive officer of Walls Regional Hospital in Cleburne;
Morgan, a member of JAMS/ENDISPUTE's national panel of employment
dispute resolutions; Nutt, vice president and creative director
of Zachry Associates; Rovegno, regional marketing manager for
USA Today; and Mark L. Shifflet, senior research associate at
the Journalism Research Institute of Rutgers University.
