Recognition, construction are on the agenda
By JONATHAN KRYDER

Recognition of a public servant and continuation of a construction
proposal are among the Abilene school board's agenda items today.
The board will honor Bob Gill for his 16-year service as board
member for the Central Appraisal District. Gill, who served as
chairman for 10 years, will complete his tenure next month.
"Gill has served with great diligence and success"
and "provided effective and efficient leadership," today's
board agenda reads.
The board will issue Gill a copy of the commendation resolution.
As for the construction proposal, Superintendent Charles Hundley
said he will request from the board an authorization to "go
out and actually take some bids" for additional classrooms
at the Locust and Woodson Early Childhood centers.
"We'll be getting some guidance on that," he said.
Based on an earlier estimate, the administration reported that
construction of six classrooms at both campuses would cost roughly
$2 million. At the board's last meeting, Hundley said 29 children
are currently foregoing early-childhood enrollment because of
maximum capacities at both schools.
The board has not yet decided whether one, both or either campus
will get the additional space. The board will also hear information
reports on transportation, food service and workers' compensation,
and consider renovating the Cooper High School track and a parking
lot at Franklin Middle School.
