Former city manager missed final list

Jim Blagg won't be the new city manager in Clearwater, Fla.

The former Abilene city manager wasn't among the three finalists when Clearwater city commissioners narrowed the list from five Monday.

Commissioners didn't state why Blagg failed to make the cut. But observers said the commission was apparently unimpressed with Blagg's presentation during a public interview last week.

The Tampa and St. Petersburg newspapers also reported concerns raised about Blagg concerning Abilene's failed library bond issue of 1992 and his involvement with a city employee during his divorce.

Blagg served as Abilene's city manager from 1984-94.

For the past three years, he has lived in Dallas and worked as a vice president for The Toro Co., a turf products company. He recently quit the job to return to municipal management.
