Blagg working for Dallas MHMR
Former Abilene city manager Jim Blagg is working as executive
director of Dallas County Mental Health/Mental Retardation.
The agency's board approved Blagg's hiring May 28 and he began
work earlier this month. He was given a two-year contract. As
chief executive officer, Blagg oversees the agency's day-to-day
operation, responsible for more than 100 service sites throughout
the county, 1,200 employees and a $75 million budget.
Blagg served as Abilene's city manager from 1984-94.
For the past three years, he worked as a vice president for
The Toro Co., a turf products company. He recently quit to pursue
opportunities in the public sector. He was a finalist for the
city manager's job in Clearwater, Fla., in April.
Blagg's predecessor resigned last summer after only a year
on the job. He reportedly earned his bosses' ire by raising some
staffers' salaries by up to 39 percent without notifying board
members.
"So far, so good," said Jackie Gransberry, Blagg's
assistant. "He's a nice gentleman. He seems very business-minded."
