Brownwood man arrested on drug charge
By WILLIAM DILLARD / Correspondent
BROWNWOOD - Brown County deputy sheriffs arrested a Brownwood
man Tuesday night after breaking down a door at a local motel
room and finding several hundred dollars worth of illegal drugs.
Armed with a warrant, police arrested 33-year-old Bilverto
Rodriguez and confiscated marijuana and methamphetamines.
Narcotics investigator David Mercer said enough methamphetamine
was found to charge Rodriguez with a second degree felony, possession
of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He was also
charged with possession of marijuana.
The Early Police Department, Brown County constables, and the
Brownwood Police Department's narcotics unit assisted the sheriff's
department with the arrest.
Rodriguez was released from the Brown County Jail Wednesday
on bonds totaling $21,000. In another police matter, a driverless
1984 Mercury Cougar jumped a curb and crashed through the front
doors of a business Wednesday morning.
At 8 a.m. James Deshields, the car's owner, was inside Comet
Cleaners on Austin Avenue. He had left his two young daughters
in the car with the engine running and one of the girls apparently
put the car in drive.
Deshields and workers behind the counter were sprayed with
glass but were not injured. The car came to rest about one foot
inside the building which sustained only minor damage.
