Selcer named in 4-count federal indictment
BROWNWOOD - A Brownwood man already charged here with possessing
explosives has been named on a four-count federal indictment returned
in San Angelo.
Brian C. Selcer, 42, who was arrested after local authorities
said he ignited explosives at Lake Brownwood on Aug. 10, is accused
in the federal indictment of weapons and explosives violations.
One of the federal counts charges Selcer with being a felon
in possession of firearms - several rifles and pistols - found
at his home, 2208 Vincent. Selcer is a convicted felon who has
served a federal prison term for bank robbery.
Selcer also was charged with possessing explosives and being
a felon in possession of explosives. The fourth count alleged
the unlawful storage of explosives.
The federal indictment is the latest development in Selcer's
difficulties with the law.
Besides the Lake Brownwood explosives case, Selcer was named
Aug. 29 on a state indictment, aggravated sexual assault, and
also for being a repeat offender.
Selcer was convicted in 1985 of bank robbery involving the
use of explosives. After his release in 1991, he moved to Brownwood
and opened a karate studio. He is in Brown County Jail in lieu
of $750,000 bond.
