Local writer wins state award

Abilene writer Candy Reagan has won a state award for an article in the Reporter-News on a practical approach to cardiovascular fitness.

Her entry, "New View of Fitness," which ran in the newspaper Feb. 21, won the American Heart Association Paul R. Ellis Media Award in the medium market category.

Reagan, former city editor and special sections manager at the Reporter-News, is now a free-lance writer.

The award will be displayed at the Texas Affiliate's Annual Meeting July 18-19 in Austin.

The American Heart Association has presented communications and media awards since 1968 in honor of Dr. Ellis, an AHA volunteer who was killed in a plane crash.
