Cisco water-sewer woes total nearly $1.6 million
By MAYBELLE TROUT / Correspondent
CISCO -- Cisco's water and sewer plants have some trouble spots
-- problems that would cost nearly $1.6 million to fix.
If all corrections are made at the water plant, the bill could
total $1,112,400 while the sewer plant improvements could run
$481,500.
That was the estimate presented Tuesday night by Abilene engineer
Billy Jacob to the Cisco City Council.
Jacob said state inspectors voiced concerns after inspecting
the Cisco facilities last month.
"You may be able to correct things without spending lots
of money," Jacob said.
The engineer had a list of funding sources which he said could
help, including grants and low-cost loans.
Council members said they may tackle the problems one at a
time.
City Manager Mike Moore said, "I'm not ready yet to say,
ÔLet's jump in' on a $1.6 million project."
Moore said he plans to meet with Jacob and the Texas Natural
Resources Conservation Commission.
"We need to get with them and get something in writing,"
Moore said. "We produce excellent water."
Council members decided to take Jacob's figures home and study
them for a couple of months.
Mayor Joe Wheatley said, "Anyway you look at it, we're
going to have to come up with a certain amount of money."
In other business:
-- Moore reported that municipal court fines have totaled 101
percent of the projected amount for this fiscal year. Moore said
lake lot leases totaled $30,000 -- 117 percent -- while sales
taxes are "right on the money." Water sales are down,
he said, probably due to heavy rains.
-- Richard Perkins, a resident of Lake Cisco, said lake residents
are banding together to seek solutions to poor conditions on North
Lake Shore Drive, where they live. The mayor said if residents
come up with money for several loads of gravel, the city will
help in any way it can.
