Police investigating death of man found in
south Abilene
By TANYA EISERER / Staff Writer
Police detectives are investigating the death of a 41-year-old
man found badly injured late Sunday night in south Abilene.
Justice of the Peace Rex Andrew pronounced Frank Harris dead
at Abilene Regional Medical Center at 10:21 a.m. on Tuesday.
Harris' body was been sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy,
said Abilene police detective John Reid.
Detectives have not determined whether Harris' death was an
accident or the result of foul play. Contrary to some reports,
Harris was not stabbed, Reid said.
"The problem we're having is we don't have a good grasp
on what happened to this man," the detective said.
The victim was found lying beside the road in the 1300 block
of South 23rd, between Butternut and Poplar. He had several facial
injuries, including a large cut on his chin.
"One of the neighbors was taking out the trash and saw
him across the way and called in on him," Reid said.
Harris was conscious when he was found, and he did talk to
the officers who were first on the scene. However, he lost consciousness
in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
"He was unconscious up until his death," Reid said.
Harris, who was on disability, lived with a friend in the 2000
block of Poplar, Reid said.
Detectives were trying to retrace Harris' activities in the
hours before he was discovered.
They're also looking for anybody who may have seen Harris earlier
in the day or when he was injured. Anyone with information should
call 673-8331.
