New principal's resume looks like grade book
By ROY A. JONES II / Abilene Reporter-News
DE LEON - If De Leon school board members want to keep brand
new high school Principal Danny Willis around for a long time,
they might want to limit his school trips to Eastland and Early.
The 39-year-old administrator insists it's not the case, but
it is apparent he's working his way through the employment alphabet.
After 18 years as an educator, Willis' resume looks like a
grade book - all A's, B's, C's, D's and F's.
There are no E's, however, hence the suggestion to not let
him get too familiar with the nearby school systems in Eastland
and Early.
A native of Farmersville, Willis taught social studies and
was an assistant football coach at Anna, Bonham, Centerville and
Farmersville. He also served as a high school principal at Blue
Ridge for two years.
For the past four years he taught at, where else, Brownwood
State School.
Actually, there are a couple of E's on Willis' resume. He earned
his bachelor's (1979) and master's (1989) degrees from East Texas
State University. That's in Commerce, of course.
In Brownwood, he was active in his Baptist church. First Baptist,
right?
"Nope, Coggin Avenue," he said with a smile.
His wife Pam works for Citizens National Bank in Brownwood.
They have a 14-year-old son, Andrew, and 10-year-old daughter,
Sarah. (How did that S sneak in there?)
"It's just a coincidence (with the first six letters of
the alphabet). I really hadn't noticed," he insisted.
I gave him an E for effort for trying to convince me until
I asked if he had any hobbies.
Just fishing, he admitted sheepishly - "and golf."
