Border Patrol makes drug busts
By ANISSA CAMP / Abilene Reporter-News
Border Patrol agents made back-to-back drug busts Sunday and
Monday at the Greyhound bus station.
Sunday at 1 p.m. Border Patrol agents were doing a routine
bus check, asking passengers from El Paso for immigration papers.
They found one Hispanic man with fake papers, said agent Art Torrez.
Torrez said he noticed that the man was acting very nervous
during questioning and when he was searched before his arrest
agents found 9.2 ounces of cocaine in his boot.
"The river value of the cocaine is right at $20,000 but
the Abilene street value is $40,000," he said.
Monday at 1 p.m., another bus station check yielded 32 pounds
of marijuana.
Border Patrol agents noticed two men who looked nervous coming
off a bus from El Paso carrying large bags. Torrez said he smelled
marijuana when the men walked by.
The agents found the men pacing back and forth in the bathroom
and questioned them. An agent from the West Central Texas Interlocal
Crime Task Force and a police dog happened to be at the bus station,
he said. The dog "alerted" on the bags and the Border
Patrol agents were given permission to search the bags.
Agents found 32 pounds of marijuana, Torrez said. The Abilene
street value of the marijuana, which was headed to New York, is
$50,000, he said.
