School bond issue passes
Dublin residents passed a school bond issue of $4 million Saturday
by nearly a 2-1 margin. The vote was the fourth such attempt to
pass a bond issue in six years. All previous attempts failed.
Voters approved the issuance with 671 votes for and 348 against.
The $4 million will be used to construct a new high school for
Dublin. The proposed high school will cost $6.5 million, with
$2.5 million of that coming from the reserve fund.
Dublin voters turned down similar proposals in 1991 and 1995.
In October 1991, voters rejected a $2,865,000 issue by 17 votes.
In December 1991, voters shot down the same proposal by more than
200 votes.
Three years ago, Dublin rejected a $4.88 million issue for
a new high school by nearly 100 votes.
