New chief assumes duties

DUBLIN -- Paul Johnson, the new chief of police, has assumed his duties, while acting police chief Lt. Terry Early, resigned from the force effective Dec. 31.

Early, who had been with the department since 1985, was named acting chief after the firing of David Johnson, the former chief who is not related to Paul Johnson. Early said his resignation had nothing to do with the new chief. He said he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Kyle Lewis, a reserve officer, also resigned Monday. He had been with the department since 1989.
