Eastland commissioners spend reserve funds
By MAYBELLE TROUT / Correspondent
With the fiscal year ending Tuesday and some money still in
the bank, the Eastland City Commissioners spent part of that reserve
during a called meeting Friday night.
The commissioners pledged $10,000 to help keep the Eastland
County Crisis Center operating.
The center purchased furniture and office equipment with money
from a federal grant. No money for the group was budgeted this
year, so private funding is being sought. Last Monday, Eastland
County Commissioners voted to allow the center to use part of
the old vacant jail for its offices.
Beverly Mehaffey, executive director, said foundations may help
with some money now that the community has endorsed and assisted
the center.
In other business, the commissioners:
-- Voted to pay City Manager Paul Catoe a car allowance of
$500 a month instead of buying another city vehicle.
-- Approved $1,600 for computer equipment for the police department.
-- Approved the airport participation agreement between the
city and the Texas Department of Transportion.
They authorized Mayor Don Griffin to act as chairman and execute
the certification of the airpor fund.
The paper work is necessary before work to improve the airport
can begin.
