Death ruled accidental

SWEETWATER - The March 19 death of a woman who fell from a truck on Interstate 20 has been ruled accidental.

Nolan County Sheriff Donnie Rannefeld said the death of Kellie McCarty Gonzalez, 36, of Clovis, N.M., was alcohol-related.

Gonzalez apparently either jumped or fell from the passenger side of an 18-wheeler driven by her husband of two weeks, Johnny Gonzalez, 34, of Muleshoe. She fell under the wheels of the truck and died at the scene between Roscoe and Sweetwater.

No one witnessed the accident and the driver was detained during the investigation. He told officers he heard the outside door to the tractor's sleeping compartment open, so he began slowing down and pulled off the interstate. After stopping, he said he discovered his wife's body behind the truck.

A passing motorist called 911 at 5:56 a.m. Rannefeld said the woman had a drinking problem and had been at a nightclub the night before her death. He said the woman's parents believed the death was an accident.
