Area voters return to polls

By ROY A. JONES II / Abilene Reporter-News

Voters in Big Spring and Blanket return to the polls Saturday to settle two races that were not decided on May 3.

In Big Spring, Oscar Garcia is challenging District 2 incumbent Pat DeAnda, who is seeking her third term on the Big Spring City Council.

Garcia topped the ticket, getting 108 votes to DeAnda's 88 on May 3. He failed to receive a majority, however, when Bob Taylor received 38 votes, forcing the run-off.

DeAnda was first elected to the District 1 council seat in 1990. She was defeated by current District 1 Councilwoman Stephanie Horton in 1992, but was elected to the District 2 seat in 1994.

Meanwhile, voters in Blanket will seek to settle the May 3 tie between incumbent school board member David Godfrey and challenger Jim Bundick. Each received 103 votes for the Place 6 seat.

Polls in both cities will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voting in Big Spring will be in the high school cafeteria. In Blanket, voting will be in the Lions Club building.
