Colorado City man dies

SWEETWATER -- A 37-year-old Colorado City man died from accidental electrocution sometime Saturday while working in southwestern Nolan County.

Audie Dean Mitchell died at a site near County Road 133, where the Cap Rock Electric Co. employee was trying to repair a downed power line, said Nolan County Deputy Sheriff David McDonald.

Nolan County Judge Jack Ayrock pronounced Mitchell dead at the scene before 1 a.m. Sunday. No witnesses were known to be around where Mitchell had been working.

"We are not sure how much power was being conducted through the line, but it typically carries 7,200 volts," said McDonald. He said the site of the accident was in rugged ranch country.

The landowner found the body late Saturday night, a Nolan County Sheriff's Department spokesman said. It was not known late Sunday when the workman started work on the downed line, nor what severed the line.
