Man, 23, killed in two-car collision in north
Abilene
A 23-year-old Abilene man died in a two-vehicle collision near
Lake Fort Phantom Hill just after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Noel Dalen Willis, driver of one vehicle, was pronounced dead
at the scene. Injured were Brenda Lee Thompson, 41, of Sweetwater,
the other driver, and Ed LeFevre, 40, of Abilene, a passenger
in Thompson's vehicle.
According to the investigating officer, Terry Monroe of the
Abilene Police Department, Willis was trying to steer back onto
the road after driving into a ditch when the collision occurred.
After impact, Willis' pickup was turned sideways and overturned
2-1/2 times, landing upside down and pinning the driver, who had
been thrown clear, said Monroe. He was burned when his pickup
caught fire, the officer said. The vehicle came to rest east of
the roadway, the accident report showed.
Thompson was treated and released at Hendrick Health System
and LeFevre was in stable condition at the hospital Sunday evening.
The fatal crash occurred in the 6000 block of FM 2833, near
Yaw Road. Willis had been southbound before pulling his vehicle
across the northbound lane into the east ditch, Monroe said. The
pickup and Thompson's four-door wagon collided in the northbound
lane, he said.
Thompson was the only one of the three who was belted in at
impact, according to the accident report.
