Man truck, killed by two vehicles

A 57-year-old pedestrian died early Christmas morning after
being struck by two vehicles.
Oscar Jones of 711 Cockerell Drive was pronounced dead at the
scene at 1:45 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Rex Andrew, said Officer
Mike Ricker, a traffic investigator.
Jones, who was apparently intoxicated, was walking from the
west curb to the east curb in the 1300 block of Treadaway at 12:08
a.m. when the accident occurred, he said.
A couple traveling eastbound on Treadaway in a Chevrolet Monte
Carlo narrowly avoided striking the man, Ricker said.
"He literally jumped or ran into the path of a second
vehicle," he said. That vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet pickup
truck driven by Renee Guillians, 24, of Abilene was northbound
when it hit Jones, Ricker said.
"She hit him and knocked him into the inside lane and
approximately 65 feet north of that point of impact," the
officer said.
The victim lay in the road about a minute as a crowd gathered
around him, Ricker said.
"They started to move him, but they didn't," he said.
That's when a northbound 1989 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Robert
Jacques, 31 of Haskell ran over the man, Ricker said. The victim
was dragged an estimated 73 feet underneath the Pontiac before
being ejected, he said.
Ricker said no citations were issued.
