Deatherage in JP race
Taylor County sheriff's deputy A.L. Deatherage will run for
justice of the peace, he said Monday.
He said he will announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination
at 2 p.m. today at the Law Enforcement Center.
He is seeking the Precinct 1, Place 2 seat held by Justice
of the Peace Sam Matta, a Republican who is running for re-election.
Deatherage has run for the position before, when he unsuccessfully
challenged Matta in 1990.
He also was one of several candidates who ran 1994 write-in
campaigns for the Precinct 1, Place 1 spot now held by JP Rex
Andrew.
Browder to announce Wednesday
Taylor County Treasurer Laura Browder, a Republican, said she
will announce for re-election Wednesday.
She said she will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. on the
second floor of the Taylor County Courthouse.
Washburn to run for County GOP chairman
Abilene businessman Paul Washburn said in a news release that
he will announce today he's running for Taylor County Republican
Party chairman.
Washburn, president of Abilene Maintenance Inc., said he will
hold a news conference at noon at Taylor County GOP headquarters,
240 Cypress.
He served as vice chairman of the county GOP in 1970.
The current chairman, Larry Gill, is not seeking re-election.
