Area Filings
BLANKET - Five persons are running for three seats on the Blanket
school board.
Incumbent David Godfrey will face Jim Bundick for Place 6,
while Preston Reed and Wesley Mackey will vie for Place 5. Jeff
Wetzel is unopposed for Place 7.
BROOKESMITH - Incumbents Janice Snow and Gerald Conner will
face challengers Leonard Hill and David Wayne Williams for two
seats on the school board.
COLEMAN - No city council election will be held in Coleman
because none of the places will be contested.
Filing for mayor was incumbent Woody Maddox. Council candidates
are West Ward incumbent Larry Robinson, East Ward Howard Childress
and Chief of Police incumbent Larry Titsworth.
Filing for school board were incumbents Harold Skelton and
Connie McKee. If no one files as a write-in candidate by the April
3 deadline, no school election will be held.
DUBLIN - Katherine Prater created a contested race for Dublin
mayor, filing on the last day to run against Sam Lamkin.
Incumbent Keith Nichols did not seek re-election.
Raymond Huse and Michael Edwin Belew both filed for the Ward
1 seat currently held by Ed Stafford, who did not run again.
Pattie Johnson and Don Wood joined Ricky Fine in the Ward 2
race to replace Wayne Thiebaud, who did not seek re-election.
Councilwoman Melba Reed did not draw an opponent for Ward 3.
In the school board race, Frank Gilman became the sixth person
to file for one of the three at-large seats. Other candidates
are incumbents Steve Hightower and Travis Barnes, and challengers
John Vines, Eddie Howard and Jimmy Neal Fair.
Incumbent J.D. Hampton did not seek re-election.
The May 3 city ballot will also include a proposed half-cent
sales tax increase earmarked for economic development. The increase
would raise the local sales tax rate to 8.25 cents, and would
apply to all purchases except prescriptions, groceries and gasoline.
GOLDTHWAITE - Incumbents Harlan Jernigan and Salvador Calderon
will face Phillip T. Carr and Reggie Robbins for two seats on
the school board.
MUNDAY - Five candidates are running for three places on the
Munday school board.
They are incumbents Jim Cottingham and Maynard Moore and newcomers
Gary Mizer, Mike Stewart and Tony Myers.
NOVICE - Four candidates are running for two places on the
Novice school board.
Incumbents Bruce Pittard and Patricia Bates are seeking re-election.
Also running are Kaci Carnes and Angela Whittington. D.G. Allen
is unopposed to fill a one-year term.
PANTHER CREEK - Three people are running for Place 3 on the
Panther Creek school board. They are incumbent Ken Smith, Gay
Morgan and Rusty Ryan.
Greg Wilson is unopposed for Place 6.
RULE - Only two candidates filed for three seats on the Rule
City Council, leaving one seat vacant and canceling the election.
Filing were incumbent James Marquis and Bill Bowles.
After the council is installed, it will appoint a person to
fill the vacant seat.
Write-in deadline is April 3.
The school election will have two seats vacant with one incumbent,
Clayton Stegemoeller, filing. Others filing were Tomi Miller,
Rod Petty and Carla Marquis.
SANTA ANNA - Four candidates are running for two places on
the Santa Anna school board.
Candidates are incumbent Sharon Guthrie, Mike Pritchard, Becky
Ramirez and Jerrry Ellis.
