Retirement may mean Gen. Fogleman won't be
visiting Abilene

General Ronald Fogleman's announcement of his wish to retire
early not only affected the Air Force, it also had a direct affect
on Abilene.
Fogleman was scheduled to speak at the Abilene Chamber of Commerce
Annual Banquet on Sept. 29 and at the dedication of the Memorial
Park at Dyess that morning.
"We've called his office and they said that when they
know something they will tell us," said Lesli Andrews, special
projects director for the chamber. "They couldn't give us
a definite yes or no either way."
The chamber was incorporating the 50th anniversary of the Air
Force into its banquet and asked Fogleman to speak.
"If he still can (attend) we would like him to speak but
at this time we just don't know," Andrews said.
Fogleman also had a direct impact on Dyess AFB.
"He's always been a strong supporter of Abilene and the
combined B-1 bomber and C-130 mission," said Frank Puckett,
chairman of the chamber's military affairs committee.
When Fogleman was in charge of Air Mobility Command, he asked
Abilene to sponsor the Air Mobility Command Outstanding Community
Support Award and called it the "Abilene Trophy" because
of the strong relationship between Dyess AFB and Abilene, Puckett
said.
"I'm truly sorry to see General Fogleman leave office,"
said Puckett. "He's an outstanding American and a great friend
to Dyess and Abilene."
