Final freeway hearing to be held
By ANISSA CAMP / Abilene Reporter-News
Texas Department of Transportation officials are in Lubbock
today to hold the final public hearing dealing with a proposed
freeway corridor through the western part of the Big Country.
The hearing is designed to present the results of a study done
on how best to link Lubbock with both I-10 and I-20. The hearing
also gives the public an opportunity to express opinions on the
project. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Lubbock Memorial
Civic Center.
Three possible routes have been proposed by engineers.
-- The westernmost route passes through Lamesa, crosses I-20
between Midland and Odessa and joins I-10 east of Fort Stockton.
-- The middle route passes through Lamesa, intersects I-20
at Big Spring, then runs through San Angelo and joins I-10 near
Sonora.
-- The easternmost route runs from Lubbock through Snyder,
intersects I-20 at Sweetwater, then goes through San Angelo and
Eden before joining I-10 at Junction.
Previous public hearings have been held in Snyder, Sweetwater
and Big Spring.
