Nolan County Hospital District formulates budget
SWEETWATER -- The Nolan County Hospital District board of trustees
has formulated a budget for the new fiscal year that will make
it possible to maintain the same tax rate as last year.
Although the operating budget will not be formally adopted
until September's board meeting, hospital administrator Tom Kennedy
said, property owners can plan on paying the same 27 cents per
$100 valuation as last year.
"The board is glad we will be able to hold the line and
avoid a tax increase, although some other entities may have to
make adjustments," he said.
The hospital district was able to absorb a shortfall of around
$30,000 that came about because of the re-valuation of a co-generation
plant east of Sweetwater.
Also during Monday's monthly board meeting at Rolling Plains
Hospital, Kennedy gave an update on the expansion project that
will result in a new cardiovascular rehabilitation wing.
"We are now looking at a completion date of around mid-November."
Kennedy said a reception will be held next week for the purpose
of formally welcoming two new doctors to the staff.
They are Drs. John T. Gregg, who specializes in general and
vascular surgery, and Kimberly Leighton, who is a general practitioner.
Board members were also told that Sweetwater and neighboring
communities now have a new trauma center.
The Rolling Plains emergency room was recently designated the
status by the Texas Department of Health.
The designation came as the culmination of a year-long process
that involved the Bureau of Emergency Management evaluating X-ray
and lab support, pediatric care, administrative support and level
of staff training.
The trauma center certification is good for three years.
