Hardin-Simmons bounces back from UTSA loss to defeat Schreiner College

KERRVILLE -- The Hardin-Simmons University women's basketball team bounced back from a loss to Texas-San Antonio Friday night to defeat Schreiner College Saturday afternoon.

The Cowgirls lost to UTSA 85-56 Friday in San Antonio, getting a team-high 12 points from De Leon's Kathryn Otwell. No other player scored in double figures for HSU, while four notched double digits for UTSA.

HSU, which trailed 42-27 at intermission, made only 13 of their 37 field goal attempts while UTSA sank 33 of 65.

Micky Davis led the Cowgirls in rebounding, with seven, but UTSA held a team rebounding edge of 41-31.

In Saturday's game in Kerrville, HSU coasted to a 91-64 victory over Schreiner, posting a 26-16 edge in team field goals.

Otwell led with 15 points, followed by Mary Birdlebough with 14, and Nellie Fowler from Ballinger with 11.

Otwell also pulled down eight of the Cowgirls' 28 rebounds in the contest. Schreiner grabbed 24 rebounds.

HSU made 27 of 36 free throws, while Schreiner sank 20 of 29 at the line.

Schreiner was paced offensively by Angie Clifton with 14 points and Leigh Anne Owens with 12.
