Indians drop doubleheader in Arkansas
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - Unearned runs took their toll on McMurry
University Saturday as the University of the Ozarks swept a doubleheader
from the Indians in American Southwest Conference baseball games.
The Eagles won the first game 8-3 and took a 6-3 victory in
the nightcap. Ozarks scored 10 unearned runs in the two games.
Jason Jordan went the distance to record the win in the second
game, allowing 10 hits and three runs.
McMurry stranded runners in every inning and left nine runners
on for the game.
The Indians scored two runs in the first inning of the opener
on a fielder's choice off the bat of Joe Fichera. However, Ozarks
responded with a five-run fourth to lead for good.
In the opener, Chris Stubbs pitched a complete game against
the Indians. The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning,
one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Mike Eckert and Billy Byrd hit solo home runs for McMurry,
and Brad Smith had an rbi-single to account for each of the Indian
runs.
Stubbs shut out McMurry over the final four innings.
The Indians return to action Tuesday when they play Wayland
Bapist at 2 p.m. in Plainview.
