Indians steamroller Southwestern Adventist

McMurry University scored five runs in the first two innings and Byron Pierce pitched four shutout innings as the Indians rolled to a 16-1 win over Southwestern Adventist Tuesday in a college baseball game.

After scoring one run in the first inning, the Indians tacked on four more in the second to secure the lead for good.

Gus Beuershausen singled in two runs in the inning and Frank Beck singled in another.

Following a two-run fifth, the Indians had a five-run seventh and a four-run eighth.

Adam Martin singled in two runs in the inning, and the other three runs scored on Knight defensive mistakes.

In the eighth inning, Lynn Boyd, Gilbert Martinez, Beck and Martin had RBI hits.

Pierce allowed only four hits in four innings while Matt Penk allowed just three hits in five innings of relief. The Knights' only run came in the ninth inning on a ground out.

The Indians roughed up Knight starting pitcher Kevin Klein for 12 runs on eight hits.
