Dillas' scoring rampage sinks Dogs
AMARILLO - Amarillo smacked 20 hits, including inside-the-park
home runs by Dave Sandoval and Tim Howard, in a 17-7 rout of Abilene
Thursday night at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
Michael Boebert worked the first eight innings on the mound
for the Dillas and allowed seven runs on seven hits as he improved
to 6-2 on the season. Boebert struck out seven and walked three.
Abilene starter Kevin Borg picked up his first decision as
a Prairie Dog pitcher. He worked 32/3 innings, allowing 10 runs
on seven hits while walking five and striking out four.
The Dillas had already piled up 15 runs on 14 hits through
the first five innings.
For Amarillo, Howard was 4 for 5 with five runs batted-in,
Jerry Goss was 3 for 5 with five RBI, Sandoval went 3 for 3, and
former Prairie Dog Rod Brewer was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Howard's inside-the-park home run drove in three runs in the fourth
inning and made it 8-3, Amarillo.
Abilene's Jay Andrews narrowly missed hitting for the cycle.
He was 3 for 3 with a single, double and a triple, then was robbed
of what might have been a possible homer on an outstanding catch
made at the wall.
Also for Abilene, Jeff Motes was 2 for 3 with a solo home run
in the second inning, which had tied the game at 1-1. And Darryl
Monroe was 2 for 5 with a solo homer, his fifth of the year.
The 12-game hitting streak of Abilene's Jason McClure came
to an end, as he went 0 for 3 and walked his final time at the
plate.
Both teams are now 3-5 in the second half of Texas-Louisiana
League play, and will square off again tonight for the final game
of the series.
