WhiteWings roll to easy win
HARLINGEN - Rio Grande Valley rocked John Baack for 13 hits
and 10 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings as the WhiteWings rolled to
an 11-1 win over the Abilene Prairie Dogs Saturday night.
Rio Grande Valley scored in five consecutive innings, beginnning
with a three-run second inning. That was followed by a two-run
third, single runs in the fourth and fifth and four runs in the
sixth inning.
Abilene managed only four hits for the entire game, scoring
its only run in the fifth inning. Efrain Contreras went 2-for-4
for Abilene while Jay Andrews and Mike Vallarelli each had one
hit.
Bryan Warner hit two home runs for Rio Grande Valley, giving
him 18 for the year. The WhiteWings also hit two other home runs.
Rio Grande Valley pitcher Ryan Whitaker pitched eight innings,
allowing just four hits and one run which was unearned. He walked
only one batter while striking out three.
Warner drove in three runs with his two round-trippers while
five other WhiteWings each had two hits.
In today's 7:05 p.m. start, Mark Hampton will be the starting
pitcher for the Prairie Dogs, who dropped their second straight
game to the WhiteWings.
