Hardin-Simmons 2, Mississippi 0

Goals by Chris Gomez and Brian Nelson 13 seconds apart gave Hardin-Simmons University a 2-0 victory and moved the Cowboys into first place in American Southwest Conference men's soccer standings.

The victory at Shelton Stadium moves HSU to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in ASC play. Mississippi College falls to 4-2-1 overall.

Gomez scored in the in 41st minute of the first half on an assist from Andy Gibson. Nelson's score came 13 seconds later on a breakaway.

Clay Corder got the shutout in goal.

"It was a great weekend for us," HSU soccer coach Cory Foster said. "We can't lose a game if we want to win the conference. We not only won but shut out both opponents."

The Cowboys play their final home game Monday at 5 p.m. against the UTPB.

HSU women 6, Mississippi College 0

Melanie Forster and Christina Farmer each scored two goals as the Hardin-Simmons women's soccer team downed Mississippi College 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Parramore Field.

Jennifer Alfrod and Kara Frazier also added goals for the Cowgirls, who outshot Mississippi College, 30-2.

The win improved HSU to 11-6 overall and 6-0 in the American Southwest Conference. The team concludes the regular season next Friday at the University of Dallas and Saturday at Austin College.
