Wylie girls survive close game with Coleman

COLEMAN - Mandy Stark scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half as Wylie squeaked past Eastland 52-49 Tuesday to remain in a tie for the second-half District 6-3A lead.

The Lady Bulldogs are tied with Eastland and Merkel atop the second-half standings with 5-1 marks. Ballinger was the first-half champion.

Wylie, 16-14, trailed by one point at halftime and by two after three quarters before outscoring Coleman 21-16 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Stark scored eight points in the third quarter and six in the fourth to reach her game-high total. She was the only Wylie player to reach double figures.

Ricka McKee led Coleman with 17 points, while Crystal Hinds scored 15 and Amanda Knox had 10.

Wylie boys hang on to defeat Coleman

COLEMAN - Wylie shook off a sluggish first quarter to down Coleman 63-48 Tuesday in a District 6-3A boys basketball game.

The Bulldogs, 13-15 overall and 2-2 in district, trailed 18-10 after one quarter but rallied in the second quarter to take a 24-23 lead into halftime. Jacob Pruitt sparked the rally with two 3-pointers and eight points in the quarter.

Wylie's lead ballooned to nine, 43-34, as the Bulldogs outscored Coleman 19-11 in the third quarter.

Coleman could get no closer than eight in the fourth quarter as Pruitt hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to put the Bluecats away.

Pruitt and David Dixon led Wylie with 17 points. Grant Gregg added 11.

Nick Allen topped Coleman with 19 points, while Sedrick Baker chipped in 12.
