Tiger out of Doral because of dad's illness
MIAMI (AP) - Tiger Woods will not be in next week's Doral-Ryder
Open because of his father's illness.
Woods, who is playing in the Nissan Open in Los Angeles, informed
Doral officials that he will remain in Los Angeles, where his
father is hospitalized after heart bypass surgery.
Earl Woods was released from intensive care Friday, but will
not leave the hospital until next Monday or Tuesday.
"We commend Tiger on his decision to stay with his father
at this time," said Scott Mongomery, the Doral tournament's
general chairman.
"Tiger's message to us was 'see you next year.' We'll
look forward to that. In the meantime, we wish his father a speedy
recovery."
Going into this weekend's play, the 21-year-old Woods won three
of the 11 tournaments in which he's played since turning pro last
summer.
