Woods wins pro-am, helped by
Appleby disqualification
LIMERICK, Ireland (AP) A week before
he chases the one major he hasn't yet won, Tiger Woods warmed
up by winning a pro-am in Ireland by six strokes on Tuesday after
a near faultless rounds of 64 and 68.
Woods, who managed the 8-under 64 after
little more than three hours sleep following his flight from the
United States, carded five more birdies in his second round and
had just one bogey in his 36 holes at Limerick to win the JP McManus
Pro-Am with a 12-under total.
Woods' latest victory was helped by the
disqualification of Stuart Appleby for using an illegal laser
measurement device during Monday's first round.
Appleby completed the second round in 63
and his aggregate of 131 would have beaten Woods by three strokes.
David Duval improved on his first round
by seven shots with a 67 for 141.
Woods is staying in Ireland a few more days
to relax before next week's Open at St. Andrews.
To have an environment when you're
getting ready for a major championship, but also having fun in
a relaxed atmosphere is the ideal situation and Ireland provides
that, he said.
