Woods says he wouldn't trade jobs, even though
he gets hate mail
By Hank Gola / New York Daily News
TROON, Scotland - Tiger Woods slaked the thirsty British press
Tuesday by recounting the "numerous" death threats and
hate mail he receives.
"That's nothing unusual," said Woods, who has spoken
on the topic before. "When you're playing a sport in which
... you're the minority, of course there is going to be some animosity.
It was like that for Arthur Ashe and Jackie Robinson and numerous
other professional athletes. Until we understand and respect everyone
for the kind of person they are, not just be looking at pigmentation,
that's going to be there."
But when one reporter asked Woods if he wishes he would have
chosen a different career, Tiger replied, "No, I like being
out here. I like to work on my tan."
British tabloids had reported Monday that Woods had requested
"armed guards" around the course. He said that was not
the case.
Tiger money: Ladbrokes has installed Woods as a 6-1 betting
favorite, with Colin Montgomerie and Ernie Els at 10-1, followed
by Tom Lehman and Greg Norman at 12-1. Nick Faldo is 16-1, his
highest odds of the '90s with Ladbrokes, which is anticipating
record action this week. Woods is also 4-1 to miss the cut.
