Woods picked as most powerful person in sports

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tiger Woods, who won three majors and became the youngest golfer to complete an individual Grand Slam, was chosen the year's most powerful person in sports by The Sporting News.

Woods is just the second athlete to head the list of 100 personalities, which has been published annually since 1990. Michael Jordan was picked No. 1 in 1997.

Woods, who was 10th last year, is one of five athletes on the list. The others are Alex Rodriguez (43), Anna Kornikova (76), Rulon Garden (80) and Shaquille O'Neal (90).

No. 2 on the list is NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue. He is followed by News Corp. CEO Ruper Murdoch, NBA commissioner David Stern, Nike chairman Philip Knight, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, IMG CEO Mark McCormack, baseball commissioner Bud Selig, Anheuser-Busch executives August Busch IV and Anthony Ponturo, and NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol.
