Woods picked as most powerful person in
sports
ST. LOUIS (AP) Tiger Woods, who won three majors and became
the youngest golfer to complete an individual Grand Slam, was
chosen the year's most powerful person in sports by The Sporting
News.
Woods is just the second athlete to head the list of 100 personalities,
which has been published annually since 1990. Michael Jordan was
picked No. 1 in 1997.
Woods, who was 10th last year, is one of five athletes on the
list. The others are Alex Rodriguez (43), Anna Kornikova (76),
Rulon Garden (80) and Shaquille O'Neal (90).
No. 2 on the list is NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue. He is followed
by News Corp. CEO Ruper Murdoch, NBA commissioner David Stern,
Nike chairman Philip Knight, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner,
IMG CEO Mark McCormack, baseball commissioner Bud Selig, Anheuser-Busch
executives August Busch IV and Anthony Ponturo, and NBC Sports
chairman Dick Ebersol.
