Despite the press, Tiger's going to be Tiger
By RON SIRAK AP Golf Writer
Tiger Woods knows all about having his every move followed
by photographers. Dozens scramble about him and click away every
time he plays. But he says he fears a crazy fan more than he fears
the media.
"I've had threats to my life, but not from the press pushing
me to the limit," Woods said Tuesday at the Canadian Open
when asked if he feared being followed by photographers the way
Princess Diana was.
"I'll keep on being me," Woods said. "But the
tragedy that happened shows that something will have to be done
about the press being as aggressive as they are. When you chase
after people and cause people to lose their lives, you have to
take a long and serious look at it."
The crowd outside the clubhouse saw Woods emerge with a handful
of security guards, smiling and waving as he strode to the media
tent for his pre-tournament news conference. About 1,000 fans
later followed Woods on his practice round.
"I think it happens to royalty, movie stars and Hollywood
figures," Woods said about having every move followed by
photographers.
"Our living is made in public," Woods said. "They
see us all the time. Royalty and stars don't work in public as
much, so when they do come out, people want to see them."
Woods also announced two more occasions for the public to see
him this year, saying he will defend his titles at the Disney
Classic from Oct. 16-19 and the Las Vegas Invitational from Oct.
22-26.
He will end his season with the Tour Championship in Houston
from Oct. 29-Nov. 2.
