Tiger's commercial shoots on
hold
WINDERMERE, Fla. (AP) Tiger Woods,
the No. 1 player in golf and winner of 21 tournaments around the
world, was no different than more than 100,000 actors on Tuesday.
He was on strike.
Woods was to shoot a TV commercial for Nike
at his home course of Isleworth Country Club outside Orlando.
But Woods is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, which staged
its first walkout in 12 years on Monday.
The guild and the American Federation of
Television and Radio Artists, which represent about 135,000 actors,
are demanding a bigger cut from the cable market.
We shot no commercial today,
said Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent at IMG. And we have no
plans to shoot any commercials for several weeks. There is a strike
going on, and we're abiding by it.
A Nike spokesman could not be reached for
comment.
Woods has become one of the most popular
pitchmen in sports and has done television commercials for Nike,
Buick and American Express.
Among his commercials was an impromptu ad
for Nike in which he bounced a ball on a wedge for about 20 seconds
behind his back, between his legs and hit the golf
ball in mid-air after the final bounce.
