PGA Grand Slam dates may be changed because
of Tiger Woods conflict
HONOLULU (AP) A Tiger Woods conflict could result in
a change of dates for this year's PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
PGA of America officials reported Wednesday the tournament
for winners of the four major tournaments may have to be moved
back a week because defending champion Woods has a commitment
to play the same week in the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
The Grand Slam, a 36-hole event with a total purse of $1 million,
is set for Nov. 16-17 on Kauai, but officials are trying to reschedule.
Nov. 23-24 have been mentioned.
All the parties involved are in agreement that they want
to have the winners of the majors in the PGA Grand Slam,
PGA of America spokesman Julius Mason said.
We are working on a date change to avoid any conflicts.
Woods committed to the World Cup before winning the PGA Championship
last month. Others who have qualified for the Grand Slam include
Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, U.S. Open winner Payne Stewart
and British Open champion Paul Lawrie.
