Woods eyes 3rd Classic title
By Hunki Yun
The Orlando Sentinel

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — As usual, Tiger Woods will be going after Jack Nicklaus this week.

If Woods can fulfill expectations and win the National Car Rental Golf Classic at Walt Disney World Resort, he will join Nicklaus as the only other three-time winner in tournament history.

“I feel pretty good coming in,” said Woods, who won here last year and in 1996. “My game is a lot better than I thought it would be after the break.”

Woods, who took five weeks off before last week's Presidents Cup, also is working on a few other accomplishments.

He will be going for his fourth consecutive victory.

With nine victories and $8,281,821 in winnings, Woods can become the first player to earn $10 million and the first since Sam Snead in 1950 to win 10 events.

With three major victories, a career Grand Slam and a six-tournament winning streak dating to last year, Woods' 2000 season has felt like a lifetime packed into 10 months.

Incredibly, it can get better.

While he won't be able to match Byron Nelson's record 18 wins, Woods can duplicate Nelson's winning percentage of .600 with a sweep of the final three events beginning at the Classic, which would give him 12 wins in 20 starts.

That may sound difficult but not for Woods, especially considering Woods already accomplished the season-ending hat trick last year.

“It's definitely one of my goals,” Woods said. “I'm looking forward to it.”

At his level, it appears Woods has been left with few benchmarks—and one of them is himself.
